RBI, FinMin ask banks to ensure ATM cash ahead of UPI charges
The decline was driven mainly by the closure of off-site machines, even as on-site ATMs increased. Public sector banks had 133,544 ATMs at the end of March 2025, down from 134,694 a year earlier, while private-sector banks reduced their network to 77,117 from 79,884. White-label ATM operators, in contrast, increased their network to 36,216 from 34,602.
