HP BJP to prepare chargesheet on Cong govt’s unfulfilled promises

The core group of the BJP met on Tuesday and resolved to launch a statewide mass campaign against the Congress government’s anti-people policies, unfulfilled guarantees, and administrative failures. The party decided to prepare a comprehensive chargesheet highlighting the government’s unfulfilled promises over the past three-and-a-half years and present it before the people of the state.

Addressing a press conference post-meeting, state BJP president Dr. Rajeev Bindal said the core group held detailed deliberations on the prevailing political situation in Himachal Pradesh, the recently concluded Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections, and the party’s future organisational and mass outreach strategy. Bindal, on behalf of the core group, further expressed its gratitude to the people of the hill state for their overwhelming support to the BJP in the Panchayati Raj and Municipal Corporation elections.

He stated that the election results have sent a clear message that the people are disappointed with the Congress government’s three-and-a-half years in office and have rejected what he described as its anti-people and anti-Himachal policies. He alleged that the Congress government made repeated attempts to delay and influence the election process, but elections were ultimately conducted following judicial intervention.

Bindal claimed that even today, elections for the Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons have been conducted in only six out of the twelve Zila Parishads. Despite what he termed sustained efforts by the government, BJP-backed candidates secured both the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson posts in all six Zila Parishads where elections were held. He also claimed that in five Zila Parishads, the Congress could not even field candidates for the positions.

Bindal said that even in Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s home district, Hamirpur, Congress performed poorly, while BJP-backed representatives received decisive support. Referring to the Municipal Corporation elections, he said BJP succeeded in forming the Mayor and Deputy Mayor leadership in three out of the four Municipal Corporations, describing the outcome as a clear public verdict against the Congress government.

The state BJP chief alleged that the Congress government has failed to fulfil the promises it made before the elections to women, youth, employees, farmers and orchardists. He claimed that rations for the poor have become more expensive, development has come to a standstill, law and order has deteriorated, corruption has increased, and various mafias have flourished under the present regime. He said BJP will take these issues to every village and town and expose what he described as the government’s failures.

Responding to the chief minister’s assertion that Congress would return to power in 2027, Bindal said the same electorate that rejected Congress in the recent Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections would decide the outcome of the Assembly elections. He alleged that the Congress government’s much-publicised guarantees have remained largely unfulfilled, including promises related to financial assistance for women, free electricity, and procurement of milk and cow dung. Instead, he claimed, the burden on the common people has increased while development has slowed.

Replying to remarks made by the chief minister and other Congress leaders, Bindal said Congress does not require any certificate from the BJP because the people have already delivered their verdict. He alleged that Congress has a long history of opposing the construction of the Ram Temple at the birthplace of Lord Ram, contesting the issue in courts and resisting the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He alleged that the party pursued a politics of appeasement at the cost of the religious sentiments of millions of devotees.

Bindal said that the Congress leaders’ recent visits to the Ram Temple reflect political compulsion rather than genuine faith. He said Lord Ram is a symbol of faith and devotion for the people of India, whereas Congress has historically treated the issue as one of political convenience.

He held that Congress cannot erase its history of opposing the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the actions taken against Ram devotees during that period. He claimed that the people of the country have not forgotten those events and are fully aware of what he described as the Congress party’s changing political narrative.

He said BJP’s objective is not merely to attain political power, but the party also wants to serve every section of society.

The crucial meeting of the BJP’s core group was held at the party’s state headquarters in Shimla which was attended by BJP’s State In-charge Shrikant Sharma, Co-Incharge Sanjay Tandon, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, former Union Minister and Member of Parliament Anurag Singh Thakur, former State BJP President and MP Suresh Kashyap, Rajya Sabha MPs Harsh Mahajan and Dr. Sikander Kumar, along with all members of the State Core Group.
