Ajit Ranade: Rising interest payments on government debt isn’t equally bad news for everyone
This is quite different from the decade after the global financial crisis, when interest rates were exceptionally low. Governments could borrow at near zero rates, below nominal GDP growth, and manage their debt burden. That arithmetic has become much less favourable. Debt is higher, interest rates are higher and growth has moderated.
