US Vice President JD Vance to meet PM Modi during India visit on April 21
US Vice President JD Vance is set to travel to Italy and India over the next week as part of a diplomatic mission that will also see him and his family visiting key cultural landmarks. The trip, which begins this Friday and runs through April 21, will include stops in Rome, New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.
Vance, who has recently taken on a more prominent role in the White House’s international engagements, will be accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, and their three children – Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. This marks his first visit to India, a country that holds personal significance for the family, as Usha is the daughter of immigrants from South India.

While in India, the Vice President is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 21, according to a White House release. The visit will also include discussions on trade, with Indian officials reportedly aiming to conclude ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States within six weeks.
In addition to high-level meetings in the capital, the Vance family will visit Jaipur and Agra, where they are expected to take part in cultural events and visit historic landmarks, including the iconic Taj Mahal.

JD Vance to meet PM Meloni in Rome
Before heading to India, Vance will spend time in Rome, where he is slated to meet Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The two leaders are expected to discuss trade, with Meloni fresh from her own visit to Washington, where she met President Donald Trump in hopes of securing tariff relief for the European Union.
Vance, who converted to Catholicism in 2019, will also meet with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin. His visit to the Vatican coincides with the Easter season, and he is expected to participate in ceremonial observances.
This visit follows a series of recent overseas trips by the Vice President, including stops in Greenland, Paris, and Munich earlier this year. President Trump is expected to make his first foreign visit of the year in May, with a trip planned to Saudi Arabia.
Vance’s upcoming engagements in Italy and India highlight the growing diplomatic responsibilities he has assumed, particularly as the White House advances its broader trade and foreign policy agenda.
