OpenAI slashes GPT-5.6 Sol API pricing by over 20% — Developers can now access it at ₹380 only
Amid growing competition from Anthropic and Chinese AI models, OpenAI said it is cutting the prices of its frontier GPT-5.6 Sol model for developers by more than 20% for the next three months.
The price cuts are effective on OpenAI’s application programming interface, or API, and are rolling out across eligible plans for credits on its agentic AI product ChatGPT Work and its coding tool Codex, OpenAI said.
Pricing for Pro, Plus and Business subscriptions remains unchanged, the company added.
GPT-5.6 Sol is now priced at $4 (approximately ₹380) per 1 million input tokens and $20 ( ₹1,900) per 1 million output tokens for standard short-context use, according to OpenAI’s pricing table.
That compares with previous prices of $5 ( ₹480) and $30 ( ₹2,870), respectively.
Late last month, OpenAI slashed prices for its smaller models and reduced the price of the mid-tier GPT-5.6 Terra model by 20%. The price of the lower-cost Luna model was also slashed by 80%.
Currently, Anthropic lists its frontier Claude Fable 5 model at $10 ( ₹955) per 1 million input tokens and $50 ( ₹4,780) per 1 million output tokens. Its Claude Opus 5 model is listed at $5 per 1 million input tokens and $25 ( ₹2,390) per 1 million output tokens.
ChatGPT for Teens
On Tuesday, OpenAI launched its teenager-focused version of ChatGPT to help youngsters with their education, allowing them to learn, deepen their understanding, and use AI with confidence.
“ChatGPT for Teens felt deeply personal and important,” APAC chief Kiran Mani said at its launch. “As a parent to a teenager and a pre-teen, I think about AI the same way many parents do – I want young people to be able to learn, explore and build with it, but I also want to know they can use it safely.”
OpenAI said that its new ChatGPT version for teenagers will kick in for a new user once its system estimates that someone falls in the age bracket of 13 to 17.
The company also said that this modified chatbot for youngsters continues the work it has done to support teens, like updating their parental controls, under-18 model spec, creating “Teen Safety Blueprint, rolling out Age-Prediction and expanding features to support learning and healthy AI use for teens.”
ChatGPT also claimed that across its network, the company is guided by four commitments:
