India-US Trade Talks: ACMA hopeful of mitigating tariff impact

The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) has expressed optimism that ongoing trade negotiations between India and the United States will help address the impact of President Donald Trump’s latest tariff measures. ACMA believes the discussions could lead to a balanced resolution benefiting both economies.

Reacting to Trump’s tariff announcement on Wednesday, made under the ‘Liberation Day’ initiative, ACMA President and Subros Ltd CMD Shradha Suri Marwah stated that autos, auto parts, and steel and aluminium articles—already subjected to 25 per cent tariffs under Section 232—were not included in the latest order issued on March 26, 2025.

“The detailed list of auto components that will be subject to the 25 per cent import tariff in the US is still awaited,” Marwah said.

She acknowledged the US administration’s intent to boost domestic manufacturing and address trade imbalances but remained hopeful that bilateral negotiations would lead to a mutually beneficial resolution.

“ACMA remains hopeful that the ongoing bilateral negotiations between the Indian and US governments will lead to a balanced resolution that benefits both economies,” she added.

Highlighting the strong trade relationship between India and the US, Marwah emphasised that continued dialogue is crucial to mitigating the impact of these tariff measures. ACMA is committed to engaging with all stakeholders to safeguard the long-term interests of the Indian auto component industry.
