All newborns must be screened for congenital hypothyroidism—well before its effects show up
Indian children are more susceptible than others to congenital hypothyroidism, which can impair mental development if not caught early. To detect it at a stage when its impact can wholly be prevented, screening of newborns at scale is a must—by policy.
