BJP delegation meets Baruipur victim’s family

A BJP delegation on Tuesday morning visited the residence of the minor girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur, offering support to the bereaved family amid mounting political tension over the incident.

The delegation included minister Agnimitra Paul, Locket Chatterjee, and Keya Ghosh. Speaking to the media, Agnimitra said that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and noted that the accused were apprehended within 24 hours. She added that the visit was aimed at reassuring the victim’s family and standing by them during the crisis.

Locket said that the family appeared satisfied with the steps taken by the state government so far. Stressing the need for justice, she stated that those responsible must face the strictest possible punishment.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has maintained a strong stance on the incident and is scheduled to visit Baruipur later in the day. On Monday, he said that while the main accused would face the death penalty, those attempting to “inflame the situation” would also face strict consequences.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the region. The minor girl, who had been missing since Saturday, was found dead on Sunday morning, with her body recovered from a local pond. Allegations of rape and murder led to protests by local residents, who initially prevented authorities from removing the body. The situation was later brought under control with the intervention of police and central forces.

Tensions escalated further when one of the accused died after being assaulted by an angry mob. So far, three individuals, including the prime accused Ananda Sardar, have been arrested in connection with the case.

A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted on the Chief Minister’s directive, is currently probing the matter.

In addition to the primary case, separate cases have been registered in connection with related incidents, including mob lynching, attacks on police personnel, and railway blockades. The Chief Minister stated that around 200 individuals have been identified for taking the law into their own hands, and legal action will be initiated against them.
