Has Israel-Iran war ended (for now)? After Donald Trump announces ceasefire, Iran reportedly fired missiles

US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday (June 24, 2025) that Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire, ending a 12-day war with conditions. However, even as the US President is celebrating it as his triumph, reports from foreign media suggest that Iran had broken the ceasefire, firing missiles and killing Israeli civilians. 

On this Truth Social account, Trump wrote: “CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED! Officially, Iran will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 12th Hour, Israel will start the CEASEFIRE and, upon the 24th Hour, an Official END to THE 12 DAY WAR will be saluted by the World. During each CEASEFIRE, the other side will remain PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL. On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, “THE 12 DAY WAR.” This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”

He further wrote on the website that Israel and Iran approached him for ‘peace’ and he reciprocated. “Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, “PEACE!” I knew the time was NOW. The World, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS! Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures. They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!’

However, foreign media reported that the status of the ceasefire remained tentative as an Iranian missile barrage on Tuesday struck Israel.

Quoting Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue services, it reported that the Iranian barrages sent Israelis hurrying into bomb shelters as the sun rose, killing at least four people and injuring eight others, said.

It also quoted police as saying that the barrage damaged at least three densely packed residential buildings in the city of Beersheba. 

Even as Trump announced a ceasefire, Israel has yet to acknowledge the US President’s proposal. On the other hand, Iran, on its state television, announced an overall ceasefire had begun at 7:30 a.m. local time. 

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote in a post on X. “However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”

Araghchi further added: “The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”
